The Ashihara Kaikan Federation of Belgrade was founded in 2007, dedicated to the development, improvement, and promotion of Ashihara Karate as a modern and dynamic martial art. Through systematic work with children, youth, and adults, the federation brings together clubs and athletes with the aim of fostering sportsmanship, discipline, self-confidence, and a healthy lifestyle. By organising competitions, seminars, grading examinations, and training camps, we actively contribute to the professional development of coaches and competitors, as well as strengthening the Ashihara community in Belgrade and beyond. Saša Anđelić elected President of the Ashihara Kaikan Association of Belgrade

On the regular session of the Assembly of the Ashihara Kaikan Association of Belgrade, held on December 6, 2025, key decisions of importance for the further work and development of the Association were unanimously adopted.
One of the most important decisions concerned changes in leadership. The Assembly unanimously accepted the resignation of the previous president, Milan Jovanov, who assumed a new position as President of the Ashihara Karate Federation of Serbia. Saša Anđelić was unanimously elected as the new President of the Ashihara Karate Association of Belgrade. With the election of the new president, the Association continues its work aimed at further improving its organization, developing member clubs, and promoting Ashihara karate in the territory of Belgrade.
At the Assembly, awards were also presented to the most distinguished athletes of 2025: Rastko Anđelić, Vuk Milenković, Andrija Ašanin, Dunja Đorđević, and Lazar Milenković.

Eight medals from the Sabaki Cup in Warsaw

At the open Ashihara Sabaki Cup 2025, held on April 5th, 2025, in Warsaw, 370 competitors from Serbia, Poland, Romania, Denmark, and Ukraine gathered. In a highly competitive field, the representatives of Serbia achieved a notable result, winning a total of eight medals.

At this prestigious competition, our national team members achieved remarkable results. In the kumite discipline, the most successful were Petar Novićević (Tsuru) and Teodor Tomić (Tsuru), who secured gold medals with confident performances. Silver medals were won by Viktor Milović (Hyo) and Vuk Milenković (Crna Mamba), while bronze medals went to Lazar Milićević (Crna Mamba) and Veljko Janković.

What is Ashihara

Ashihara Kaiikan is an original, direct (full contact) Japanese martial art founded by Kancho Hideyuki Ashihara (05.12.1944 – 24.04.1995). The official name of the organisation that brings together the representatives of this art is 'N.I.K.O.' - Ashihara Kaikan. Today, the legacy of his father has been inherited and is successfully led by Kancho Hidenori Ashihara, with its headquarters in Matsuyama, Japan. The essence of this martial art is known as the Sabaki Method, which involves positioning the fighter to the side or behind the opponent, thereby securing the most advantageous position for manipulating the opponent's balance and facilitating a simultaneous counter-attack. Built upon this movement, derived from the fundamental tenets of martial arts, are two sports and skills: Kyokushin Kai and Karate, as well as original techniques devised by the style's founder. Hand and foot Kyokushin-kai strikes make up approximately 40 per cent of this fighting style, while throws, sweeps and takedowns from Karate account for 10 per cent. When many original techniques, accounting for 50%, developed by Hideyuki Ashihara himself, are added to this, the result is a completely indigenous and original art and sport – 'Ashihara'. It was the founder's brilliant idea, having recognised the potential to improve the two aforementioned styles by synthesising them, that established a powerful, dynamic, and highly attractive martial art under Full Contact rules, one that captivates at first sight. Due to the shortcomings of full-contact rules in Karate, he adopted the full-contact rules from Kyokushin, and because of the beauty and applicability of the techniques of throwing, sweeping, takedowns and, ultimately, scoring, he adopted this segment of the sporting rules from Karate. By adding his own authentic techniques, implemented through the sport's rules, an opportunity arose to establish a completely new and authentic sport. Find out more
